SPAN 2020 – Intermediate Spanish

In SPAN 1020, I continued building my foundation in grammar and vocabulary, while really starting to grow in both my speaking and writing skills. The class included regular practice in the language lab, which helped me improve my pronunciation and listening comprehension. It was a great way to become more confident communicating in Spanish, and I loved seeing how much progress I made from the first semester.

In this course, I practiced and strengthened my skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish. We reviewed grammar and vocabulary in a more structured way, which really helped me connect the dots from earlier courses. I also got to explore some literary texts and cultural topics, which made the language feel more alive and relevant. It was a great balance between language practice and cultural understanding.

This course was a continuation of SPAN 2010, where I continued to build my skills in all areas of the language, listening, speaking, reading, and writing. We expanded on more complex grammar and vocabulary, and I had more opportunities to engage with Spanish-speaking cultures through readings and discussions. It really helped me gain more confidence in using Spanish in real-world situations.

SPAN 3160 – Spanish for International Business I

In this class, I focused on improving my business writing skills in Spanish through regular compositions and real-world examples. We reviewed important grammar structures and learned specialized vocabulary used in international trade and business settings. It was a great way to combine my language skills with my interest in global business.

This course focused on developing practical communication skills in Spanish through interactive speaking exercises, vocabulary building, and pronunciation practice. Emphasis was placed on listening comprehension and speaking fluency, supported by written assignments and language lab sessions to enhance accuracy and confidence in real-world conversations.

This course provided a foundational understanding of the Spanish-speaking business world, combining language instruction with cultural and professional context. Emphasis was placed on business vocabulary, formal communication, and protocol, with situational practice and analysis of authentic commercial texts. Through both written and spoken exercises, I developed the skills necessary to navigate professional environments in Spanish-speaking cultures

SPAN 4160 – Spanish for International Business II

SPAN 3070- The Hispanic World: Spain

This course deepened my understanding of business practices across Hispanic markets through the study of advanced vocabulary, economic geography, and cultural frameworks. We explored social, political, and economic issues impacting global marketing in Spanish-speaking countries, while gaining insight into key business areas such as company structure, management, banking, investment, and the exchange of goods and services. This course enhanced my ability to analyze and communicate complex business concepts in Spanish.

Taken while studying abroad in Spain, this course explored Spanish-language films as cultural texts that reflect and critique Hispanic society. Through the study of cinematographic techniques and comparative analysis of literature and film, we examined how cinema portrays social, political, and historical realities. A key focus was on Spanish films from both pre- and post-Franco eras, providing insight into shifting cultural narratives. Featured films included Función de noche and Flores de otro mundo, which offered powerful commentary on identity, gender roles, and societal change.

This course offered a comprehensive overview of Spain’s cultural evolution from its early origins to modern-day society. Emphasis was placed on the artistic, social, historical, and political developments that have shaped the Iberian Peninsula. Through the study of major cultural movements and contemporary issues, I gained a deeper understanding of Spain’s national identity and regional diversity.

SPAN 3130- Span Lit Survey I

This course explored key literary movements and influential authors from the origins of Spanish literature through the 17th century. Through close reading and discussion of representative texts, I examined the historical, cultural, and philosophical contexts that shaped early Spanish literary expression. The course emphasized major works and their impact on the development of Spanish language and identity.

SPAN 4090- Comprehend Writing in Spanish

This course focused on refining written expression in Spanish through grammar review and the study of stylistic techniques. I developed skills in crafting coherent and nuanced writing across a variety of formats, including paragraphs, analytical compositions, and creative works. Assignments covered both fiction and non-fiction topics, allowing me to strengthen my ability to write with clarity, accuracy, and personal voice in Spanish.

LAIB 4000 – Language & International Business Internship

LANG 4990 – Language Portfolio

As part of my International Business curriculum, I completed a 140+ hour internship with an international company, gaining hands-on experience in a global business environment. This course emphasized practical application of cross-cultural communication, business strategy, and professional skills in real-world settings. The internship experience was paired with a written report in my target language, integrating language proficiency with international workplace insight.

This course explored Salsa as both a dance form and a cultural expression rooted in Latin American and Afro-Caribbean traditions. Through movement-based learning, I gained a deeper appreciation for the rhythms, history, and social significance of Salsa within Hispanic cultures. The class emphasized not only dance technique, but also the cultural fusion and storytelling that make Salsa a powerful medium of identity and community.

In this course, I created a comprehensive digital portfolio to showcase key competencies such as critical thinking, problem solving, cross-cultural awareness, and ethical judgment. Drawing from my study abroad and internship experiences, I reflected on my academic and professional growth while building a resource that highlights my skills and global perspective. The course also served as a foundation for career development by encouraging intentional self-assessment and long-term goal setting.

This course examined the role of management as a key factor in economic production, focusing on foundational functions such as planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. We explored principles of organizational structure, managerial decision-making, and human behavior within organizations. The course emphasized the impact of effective management on business performance and organizational success.

This course introduced the core concepts of marketing, including the planning, pricing, promotion, and distribution of goods and services. Emphasis was placed on understanding consumer behavior, market research, and strategic decision-making. Through case studies and practical applications, I developed a foundational understanding of how marketing drives value creation in both domestic and global markets.

This class explored the psychology behind consumer decision-making. I analyzed how companies influence purchasing behavior through marketing strategies, deepening my understanding of business-consumer interactions.

In this class, I explored how international laws, foreign policies, and political environments impact business operations. I analyzed global markets and gained insight into the complexities of managing a business across borders.

This course provided a broad overview of the global business environment, focusing on the complexities of operating across borders. Key topics included foreign direct investment, international trade, and the impact of institutional and cultural differences on business strategy. We also explored the roles and responsibilities of businesses and their stakeholders within the context of global economic integration and evolving international markets.

In this class, I examined marketing strategies from a global perspective and had the opportunity to receive insights from a professional in international marketing. Through case studies and projects, I practiced developing marketing plans for businesses in different markets. We created a business in a foreign market and had to analyze market trends.

This class introduced me to fundamental accounting principles and financial data analysis. I learned how to interpret financial statements and assess assets and liabilities, which is essential for understanding a company’s financial health.

This course introduced core concepts in economic reasoning, focusing on the decision-making processes of consumers and firms. Topics included supply and demand, market structures such as competition and monopoly, international trade, and the effects of public policy on market outcomes. As the first part of a two-semester economics sequence, the course laid a strong foundation for understanding how economic principles influence real-world behavior and business strategy.

As a continuation of Microeconomics, this course focused on the broader economy, examining key indicators such as inflation, unemployment, and economic growth. We explored how fiscal and monetary policies influence overall economic performance through financial markets. The course provided a foundational understanding of national and global economic systems and their impact on business environments and public policy.

This course offered an analytical approach to understanding value and the distribution of resources under various market structures. Through mathematical modeling and economic theory, we examined how prices, outputs, and income distribution are determined in competitive, monopolistic, and other market environments. The course deepened my understanding of consumer behavior, production decisions, and the efficiency of different market outcomes.

This course applied economic theory to real-world business decision-making, using analytical tools to evaluate and solve organizational problems. Emphasis was placed on data interpretation, cost analysis, and comparing strategic alternatives in uncertain environments. By bridging economic concepts with managerial practices, the course strengthened my ability to make informed, effective business decisions

This course explored the intersection of economics and political science, applying economic principles to understand political behavior and institutions. Topics included voting systems, political competition, interest groups, bureaucracy, and the roles of legislators and executives. By analyzing how self-interest and incentives influence decision-making in the public sector, I gained a deeper understanding of policy formation and the economic dynamics behind political structures.

This class helped me understand the role of financial institutions and how money circulates in the economy. I examined how banking systems function and their impact on both individuals and businesses.

ASTR 1010 - Solar System Astronomy

This course provided an intuitive introduction to the fundamental concepts of calculus, including functions, graphing, differentiation, and integration. Emphasis was placed on real-world applications in the social, biological, and management sciences. The course enhanced my analytical skills and prepared me to apply quantitative reasoning to solve practical problems in business and economics.

This course introduced the calculus of several variables, focusing on differential calculus, optimization techniques, and multiple integrals. Real-world applications from the management sciences were used to illustrate key concepts, enhancing my ability to solve complex business problems that involve multiple variables. The course deepened my understanding of how mathematical modeling can be applied to decision-making in dynamic business environments.

This course provided a descriptive survey of the universe, with a focus on basic physical concepts and the celestial objects within our solar system. We explored the fundamental principles of astronomy, including planetary motion, star formation, and space exploration, while also discussing current topics of interest in the field. The course sparked a deeper curiosity about the cosmos and our place in it.

We also explored the relationship between languages and cultures, offering an anthropological perspective on modern societal challenges. The course fostered a deeper understanding of human diversity and the factors shaping cultures today.

This course offered an in-depth overview of contemporary global politics, exploring both theoretical frameworks and practical applications. Key topics included the structure of the international system, the primary actors in global affairs, and the underlying causes of conflict. We also examined the roles of international institutions, law, and policy in shaping global relations and addressing international challenges.

This course focused on the application of statistics in various fields such as politics, medicine, environmental issues, advertising, and sports. We explored common statistical misconceptions and developed a solid understanding of how probability and statistical principles influence daily life and decision-making. The course enhanced my ability to critically assess data and make informed conclusions across different sectors.

PSYC 3060- Human Sexual Behavior

This course explored human sexual behavior from psychophysiological, behavioral, and cultural perspectives. We examined evolutionary, historical, and cross-cultural viewpoints to understand how sexual behaviors vary across societies and how they are shaped by biological, psychological, and cultural factors. The course provided a well-rounded view of sexuality, emphasizing both individual and societal influences.

ENGL 1030 – Composition and Rhetoric

COMM 2500 - Oral Communication

In this course, I learned how to use data to make decisions and communicate effectively in a business setting. We focused on critical thinking and developing communication strategies that could be applied to real business situations, helping me express ideas clearly and professionally.

In this course, I learned how to write clear and effective essays, focusing on both expository and argumentative styles. We also worked on writing well-supported, documented essays, helping me develop stronger writing and research skills.

This class strengthened my public speaking and communication skills through various speech formats, from impromptu talks to persuasive presentations. I gained confidence in delivering messages effectively and analyzing nonverbal and verbal cues in communication.
